Sam is an inventor, entrepreneur, and educator and has worked in the K12 public education, higher education, and cloud computing and engineering sectors. As a managing partner at 40 West Workspace Sam is committed to building a collaborative community that supports small business development in the Philadelphia area and brings value, innovation, and opportunity to the region. Sam believes that work can be joyful and creative with access to the right space, resources, technologies, and relationships. Sam applies these principles to 40 West Workspace as a Managing Partner. Sam is a Senior Solutions Architect with Amazon Web Services, where he architects, builds, and protypes cloud computing solutions for the renewable energy industry. Sam is passionate about the power of human-computer partnerships that enhance the human condition and is currently focused on IoT and embedded system design, greenhouse gas accounting data solutions, micro power plants, and power grid modernization and design.

Sam started his career as a public-school teacher in Philadelphia and will probably always be teaching a class somewhere. Sam is a passionate inventor, musician, gardener, cook, cyclist, and aspiring passivhaus builder. Sam lives in Chestnut Hill with his wife, Chanel. Sam and Chanel both work out of 40 West Workspace and love their tree-lined walking commute and lunch breaks together.

Sam graduated with a BA in Computational Sociology from Reed College and an MS in Education from University of Pennsylvania.
